Morrissey Given Green Light for NME Libel Claim

English rock singer-songwriter Morrissey has won a court case allowing him to sue the NME for libel after the magazine ran a story suggesting Morrissey had made controversial statements about the country’s immigration policies.

The singer is looking to sue its former editor, Conor McNicholas, as well as the magazine after they ran the story ‘Big Mouth Strikes Again’, with the decision to sue brought up by Morrissey’s legal team – with Morrissey claiming his reputation was hurt by the allegations. But, the NME remained confident that when the case reaches court, they’ll come out winners.

A spokesperson said: “NME recently sought to strike out Morrissey's claim on grounds of a lengthy delay. After almost four years, we are glad that the matter will now proceed to trial and we will finally get the opportunity to bring this matter to a close.”

Further details of the case have not been disclosed, so we’ll have to wait a bit longer to see the results of what the outcome is. The episode began after an NME writer quoted the ex-Smith’s man as saying “The gates of England are flooded. The country's been thrown away… Although I don't have anything against people from other countries, the higher influx into England, the more the British identity disappears.”
