Noel Gallagher is a man who needs no introduction. Oasis helped shape the 90s and their influence can be heard with plenty indie-guitar bands such as The Enemy and The Courteeners. Not only that but they also contributed to that Mancunian sense of pride that's brought about by the mention of names such as The Smiths, Joy Division and The Stone Roses. However, this isn't Oasis is it? It's Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds.
'Dream On' is the fourth single from Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds and is due to be released on the 12th of March. So far Noel and his backing band (which is made up of former Oasis session musicians as well as members of The Zutons and The Lemon Trees) have made quite an impression, with Noel being nominated for Best Male Solo Artist at the Brits as well as being nominated for four NME awards, including the prestigious sounding Hero of the Year.
Noel isn't used to being centre-stage, but he's doubtlessly the more talented of the two Gallagher brothers. The track itself is unsurprisingly reminiscent of Oasis, with a pounding beat and quickly strummed guitars. It's a little more mellow and mature sounding than Oasis back in the day and even uses a horns section to good effect. But the track still has a catchy little chorus and sing-along bits towards the end and feels a lot poppier and more light hearted than Don't Believe the Truth-era Oasis.
Noel is doing just fine on his own and he should be proud to have this in his repertoire, even if it's not 'Wonderwall', quite. And although nothing compares to classic Oasis, this is the best track to come out of either Gallagher brother since 'Be Here Now'. I bet Liam is kicking up one of his famous tempers now Beady Eye have been overtaken by the High Flying Birds.
