If you haven't heard of Wet Nuns, then you are in for a treat. Having been introduced to them in the best possible way (seeing them perform live), they are by far one of the most exciting bands that I have come across in a very long time. Their profile is rising slowly but you mark my words, this magical duo are going to be huge. NME has already named them “Band To Watch 2012” and Arctic Monkeys Matt Helders has remixed their previous single 'Heaven’s Below'.
Latest single 'Throttle' can be downloaded for free at www.wetnuns.com, where you can also check out the slightly sickening music video (word of warning - do not watch it if you are about to eat, are a bit of a wimp, are offended easily or are prone to nightmares). The song is made up by 3 minutes and 3 seconds of sexy southern rock riffs raised to a brand new level.
This death-punk duo from Sheffield incorporates everything that you could ever want. Imagine if you will The Black Keys and Clutch had a Yorkshire lovechild, Wet Nuns would undoubtedly be that child. With stomach-churning guitars combining with heavy drumming, they produce the trademark modern lo-fi, blues-stoner-punk sound that I just can’t get enough of. This is what good music should sound like. This is the sort of stuff that kids should listen to at school so they could be educated and learn to differentiate between what is good and what is evil.
Wet Nuns provide a modern sound to what can be contrived as mundane blues. They mix soulful punk to create a mesmerising sound and turn it into pure filth. If your ears could have the filthiest, dirtiest, drunkest sex possible, it would be with them. Musically, this is excellent, there is nothing that I can fault, lyrically, this is not something that I personally can relate to, so this would be their weakness. It's not bad, not bad at all.
All in all Wet Nuns are simply superb. What have you got to lose, the single is free and it is the best free download that you will ever make. Do yourself a favour and do the following things a) download the single b) watch the video (please note the warning previously given) c) catch them live if you can.
You will find both their single and the music video at their website. Do it, do it now.
