Rise To Remain - Nothing Left (Single Review)

Rise to Remain are a five-piece band from London whose new song has been described by some as “a powerful statement of intent". The band have recently been awarded 'Best New Band' by both Kerrang and Metal Hammer and if you have been to one of the heavier music festivals this summer, chances are that you have already seen them as they have played Download, Sonisphere and are due to play Kent's Hevy Festival in August.

They have already self-released a number of EPs, including the acclaimed 'Bridges Will Burn' and they signed up to EMI in March this year. You can download 'The Serpent' for free from their website www.risetoremain.com.

New track 'Nothing Left' is a gracious and charming piece of music. If you are looking for something hard that will just grab you and kick you in the face then this song is not for you. However, don't despair, this is one of thei band's more mellow songs and there are excellent riffs and licks scattered throughout. The bass and guitar are pretty flawless. For such a new band they have excellent timing and lyrically I find them very captivating, not in an emo sort of way. Definitely check them out if you are into bands like Bullet For My Valentine, Funeral For A Friend and Trivium but try not to judge the band solely on this song, it might be one of their slowest songs, yet it seems to have more of a kick than most of the crap that’s on the charts that is seen as metal (You Me At Six, Kids In Glasshouses ...)

ImageIts obvious that the band are extremely talented from Austin Dickinson's soaring-fast, ruthless and yet melodic vocals  (Austin’s dad is none other than Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden), lead guitarist Ben Tovey's solos and Pat Lundy's pounding heavy drums, Rise to Remain are an astonishing band, full of promise.  Austin Dickinson's vocals tell a tale of loss and suffering, driven along by Ben Tovey's intricate lead guitar, above the turbo-thrust of Will Homer's shredding rhythm guitars, and the hammering precision of Pat Lundy's drums and Joe Copcutt's bass. You can feel their passion whilst listening to this.

With 'Nothing Left', Rise to Remain have answered all the doubts that would cross any critics mind and have delivered a debut single that demonstrates the band's talent. The group's full length debut album is set to be released towards the end of the year, Rise to Remain is a definite band to look out for in the future.
