Britpop legend Blur have announced that they’ll be touring in 2013 - despite suggesting earlier this year that the epic Olympics closing ceremony concert would be their last gigs.
The recently-reformed outfit, who’ve been performing on and off since they returned in 2009, are set to headline Rock Werchter in Belgium in July next year, while a ‘handful’ of UK-based festivals are allegedly in a bidding-war to secure the band’s signature as a headliner - with Reading and Leeds Festival apparently looking likeliest to succeed.
Writing via the band’s Facebook page, the band said: “Thank you for waiting. Rock Werchter is about to announce that Blur will headline next July. We're excited. Hope to travel in 2013 to play to more of our lovely fans who we haven't seen for a while. Don't know where yet, we'll tell as soon as we do. Stand by.”
The tour announcement may come as surprise to some, after frontman Damon Albarn said of their Olympics closing ceremony gig “I hope that's the truth: that that's how we end it.” But the singer seemed to have changed his tune a little bit in the following months - and said in August: “Hyde Park is definitely our last gig in this country this year and probably for a long time. But that doesn't mean it's the end of Blur.”
No official dates or venues have been revealed as of yet - so stay with Stereoboard and we’ll let you know when and where Blur will be performing next year.
