JLS, Little Mix And Union J Announced For Ponty's Big Weekend 2013

A sensational line-up of chart-topping acts have been announced for Ponty’s Big Weekend this summer - all proving that Rhondda Cynon Taf has that magical ‘X Factor!

ImageRhondda Cynon Taf Council, and its partner Orchard Entertainment, have confirmed that JLS will be making a welcome return to Ynysangharad War Memorial Park, Pontypridd, headlining the Saturday event - as well as two more of Britain’s top bands and performers. Also confirmed on the Saturday bill are Little Mix, and Union J, with more acts to be announced.

Now in its sixth consecutive year, Ponty’s Big Weekend is once again fast securing Pontypridd and the County Borough a prominent place on the national summer music festival scene.

Boy band JLS was the headline act at Ponty’s Big Weekend in 2010, performing in front of 7,000 fans after tickets sold out within minutes of going on sale to the public.

Back again in 2013, this time they are set to play in front of tens of thousands of fans at Ynysangharad War Memorial Park.

JLS - made up of Aston Merrygold, Marvin Humes, Oritsé Williams and JB Gill - first rose to fame as the runners-up in the fifth series of ITV’s The X Factor in 2008, coming second to Alexandra Burke.

Little Mix, consisting of Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall, made history by becoming the first group ever to win The X Factor. Their Winner’s Single, a cover of the Damien Rice hit 'Cannonball', shot straight to Number 1 in 2011.

Their follow-up single 'Wings' also reached Number 1, followed by 'DNA' charting at Number 3. Their debut album, also called 'DNA', reached Number 3 in the UK Album Chart.

Union J, also contestants on the ninth TV series of The X Factor in 2012, made it through to the semi-final stages. Mentored by Louis Walsh, the four-piece boy band became an instant hit, appearing on the recent The X Factor UK Tour alongside all other 12 series finalists. They will be releasing their debut single in June 2013.
