Chris Kelly, one half of platinum-selling rap duo Kris Kross, was found dead last last night following a suspected drug overdose.
The star, who was age 34 at the time of his passing, was found unresponsive in his Atlanta home, and was then pronounced dead at around 5pm at his local medical centre. As an autopsy has yet to be performed, his official cause of death is still to be determined, but it’s believed that drugs were a major factor - with Fulton County police corporal Kay Lester saying:
“It appears it may have been a possible drug overdose.'
Kelly - aka Mac Daddy - was one half of 90s hip-hop duo Kris Kross, alongside Chris Smith, or Daddy Mac. They enjoyed great success in the rap scene, and were most famous for their track ‘Jump’, which topped the Billboard 200 Chart for eight weeks in 1992 and sold over 2million copies in the US alone.
This helped their debut album ‘Totally Krossed Out’ top the charts too, and go on to become 4x platinum in the US, and 3x in Canada. Though their following two albums didn’t reach the same dizzy heights, they remain cemented in hip-hop history, and their track ‘Jump’ still gets played today - you can check it out below.
Our thoughts go out to Kelly’s friends and family - RIP.
