PlayStation is to exclusively stream the Orange Amplification Metal Hammer Golden God Awards 2013. In a global deal with TeamRock, access to the live performances, award presentations and the artists will be available to watch live for the first time.
The live stream will be through PlayStation Home, the virtual environment available on any PlayStation 3 console with a broadband connection. Broadcast in 25 countries, PS Home has a million users a month globally, and this will be the first time PlayStation has ever streamed an award ceremony of any kind. Ian Williamson, TeamRock Commercial Manager, says:
“It would be an understatement to say a large majority of our readers are also passionate gamers. To join the two through the amazing PlayStation Home virtual environment is as natural as Lemmy in a cowboy hat.”
Hugo Bustillos of PlayStation UK, says:
“PlayStation gamers are a passionate bunch. Passionate about gaming and passionate about their music. Having the Metal Hammer Golden Gods streamed into PlayStation Home is really going to blow them away!”
Motörhead are headlining the evening, in what will be their most intimate show in years. Also playing will be Airbourne, Five Finger Death Punch, Paradise Lost and Coal Chamber.
PlayStation Home is PlayStation's 3D online community, users can customise their avatar, meet up with new friends or make new ones and interact with free and paid-for content. PS Home comprises of some of PSN's most fervent and engaged users.
The Golden Gods is now in its 11th year, and has become a global brand for Metal Hammer. As an event that puts the fans first, it has driven in excess of half-a-million votes this year, and 1,500 of the 2,000 tickets that are available, are given away free to fans through competitions run by the nominated bands, and via metalhammer.com. The core of any musical genre is the fan, without them it does not exist and the Golden Gods is the only rock awards that gives back, and in this exclusive deal with PlayStation, this love will spread globally.
