‘Rosie’ is the debut from BLACKPINK’s ROSÉ, with the K-pop superstar appropriately using her first solo outing to delve into her most vulnerable and honest work yet. Here she fully showcases the extreme nature of growing up in the public eye, with social media trolling walking arm in arm with heartbreak.

Tearjerking opener Number One Girl is an instant hit, combining stunning vocals with a beautiful, emotive soft-rock melody, while 3am switches lanes to deliver an Avril Lavigne-esque banger. ROSÉ wants a lover she probably shouldn’t have and the chorus is relatable and addictive. “The world can roll their eyes, but there's no use / I just want it to be you / When it's 3am,” she sings.

Elsewhere, Two Years and Toxic Till The End offer glossy, clever pop in the vein of Taylor Swift, while Drinks or Coffee and the slick, genre-melding Bruno Mars collaboration Apt. are sleek listens that explode straight out of the noughties.

Stay A Little Longer, though, is the highlight. It’s filled to the brim with credible grit to the very last note, and Andrew Wells’ exceptional production hits its mark every step of the way.

While the latter half of ‘Rosie’ perhaps isn’t as impactful as the first, it’s not a major issue. Coming in at just over 30 minutes in length, this is an economical record that’s equal parts painfully candid and soothing. Straying from her BLACKPINK persona is the best thing ROSÉ could have done, resulting in a near-pristine body of work that won’t be forgotten in a hurry.
