The last note to ring out during Peaness’s Sŵn Festival set last autumn was a frustrated one.

The Chester trio’s appearance, to a packed downstairs at Clwb Ifor Bach in Cardiff, was one of the highlights of a weekend not short on them, but the withering lyrical insights into their world, complete with post-uni malaise and seemingly dead end prospects, hit home.

Their ‘No Fun’ EP, released at the end of last summer, fed off that energy, with its immaculate indie-pop hooks also capable of baring their teeth. “You told me I could be someone,” they sang on No-one. “But I’m not.”

Now, Jess, Balla and Rach are back with new material in the shape of Oh George, which is premiering below. The studio version of their Sŵn set closer possesses a breezy confidence as its bittersweet chorus takes aim at chancellor George Osborne, who is fresh from trying to push through a budget that wore its callous heart as a badge of honour.

“We've been getting more and more frustrated and fed up with this Tory government, so we thought we should direct our anger and make something positive out of it,” Jess said of Oh George. “The song sounds like a break up song, with lines like ‘you broke my heart’, but in reality it's about George Osborne and how much of a wanker he is.

“The line ‘all your friends are just as bad’ makes more sense when you see the context. It’s making me angry just talking about them. What's going on with this country? A few people have heard it and said we should write a love song about Jeremy Corbyn. And we do love him.”
