Chester Bennington, vocalist of Linkin Park, has died aged 41.
The Los Angeles County coroner confirmed the news to the Associated Press, saying that the frontman was found dead at his home on Thursday morning.
Brian Elias, a spokesman for the coroner, told the agency that Bennington’s death is being investigated as an apparent suicide.
Bennington fronted Linkin Park alongside co-vocalist Mike Shinoda, with their 2000 debut album, ‘Hybrid Theory’, helping to define the nu metal era upon its release. The band put out their seventh LP, ‘One More Light’, earlier this year. Bennington, meanwhile, also spent time as vocalist of Stone Temple Pilots.
Writing on Twitter, Shinoda said: "Shocked and heartbroken, but it's true. An official statement will come out as soon as we have one."
UPDATE 23/07: The band are still yet to release an official statement but have updated their social media accounts with a link (http://chester.linkinpark.com/) where fans can share tributes and find support resources should they need them. They have also shared Live Nation's statement regarding their One More Light North American tour.
