The Beatles' 'Abbey Road' To Get Expansive Reissue For 50th Anniversary

Friday, 09 August 2019 Written by Jon Stickler

The Beatles' 'Abbey Road' will be reissued for its 50th anniversary on September 26.

The various anniversary packages will include the original 17 recordings featured on the 1969 album, all of which have been remixed by engineer Sam Okell and producer Giles Martin, son of Beatles producer George Martin, who said:

"The magic comes from the hands playing the instruments, the blend of The Beatles' voices, the beauty of the arrangements. Our quest is simply to ensure everything sounds as fresh and hits you as hard as it would have on the day it was recorded."

Released via Apple Corps Ltd/Capitol/UMe, the special editions will also contain 23 unheard recordings and demos lifted directly from the original eight-track tapes used during the iconic band's sessions for the album. The reissue marks the first time that 'Abbey Road' has ever been remixed and repacked with the additional session recordings and demos.

For those wanting to spend a bit more, a super deluxe box set will include a total of 40 tracks across three CDs and one Blu-ray disc. There's also a limited edition deluxe vinyl box set available, which will also include all 40 tracks from the super deluxe collection over three 180-gram vinyl LPs.
