Idles have announced a new album.
The follow-up to 2018's 'Joy As An Act Of Resistance' is called 'Ultra Mono' and will arrive on September 25 through Partisan Records. It was recorded in Paris, with production by Nick Launay and Adam ‘Atom’ Greenspan, and addtional programming by Kenny Beats.
The record, which the band wanted to embrace the essence of a hip hop album, features guest vocals from Jehnny Beth (of Savages) and appearances from Warren Ellis (of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds), David Yow, and Jamie Cullum. It will also include the previously shared single Mr. Motivator.
Alongside news of the record, the band have shared a video for their imposing new track Grounds, the album's artwork and tracklist, and the release schedule for the rest of their new songs and videos. They've also revealed they'll stream three live performances from an iconic studio on August 29 and 30, for which tickets are on sale now.
Discussing Grounds, frontman Joe Talbot said:
“We wanted to write a song that embodied self-belief, and gave us self-belief - a counter-punch to all the doubt we build up from all the noise we so easily let in. We wanted to make the sound of our own hearts’ marching band, armed with a jack hammer and a smile. We wanted to make the sound of our engine starting. So we did. Thank you."
'Ultra Mono' tracklist:
1. War
2. Grounds
3. Mr. Motivator
4. Anxiety
5. Kill Them With Kindness
6. Model Village
7. Ne Touche Pas Moi (feat. Jehnny Beth)
8. Carcinogenic
9. Reigns
10. The Lover
11. A Hymn
12. Danke
