Marilyn Manson has issued a statement in response to the allegations of abuse from Evan Rachel Wood and four other women.
On February 1, Wood publicly named Manson, real name Brian Warner, in an Instagram post revealing that he allegedly began "grooming" her when she was a teenager and "horrifically abused me for years".
The actress has previously spoken about being a survivor of domestic violence over the years but alluded to calling out her abuser. The pair had a relationship in 2007 — when she was 19 and Manson was 38 — and were briefly engaged in 2010.
Manson, now 52, has responded to Wood’s allegations in a statement released during the early hours of February 2.
"Obviously, my art and my life have long been magnets for controversy, but these recent claims about me are horrible distortions of reality," he wrote. "My intimate relationships have always been entirely consensual with like-minded partners. Regardless of how — and why — others are now choosing to misrepresent the past, that is the truth."
Following Wood’s allegations, Manson’s US record label Loma Vista Recordings said in a Twitter post they were no longer working with him:
"In light of today’s disturbing allegations by Evan Rachel Wood and other women naming Marilyn Manson as their abuser, Loma Vista will cease to further promote his current album, effective immediately.
"Due to these concerning developments, we have also decided not to work with Marilyn Manson on any future projects.”
Additionally, two US television networks have also severed ties with the singer, with Starz confirming his part in a forthcoming episode of American Gods has been scrapped. Also, California State Senator Susan Rubio has called for an FBI investigation following the claims.
Manson’s latest album released via Loma Vista Recordings was 2020’s ’We Are Chaos’.
