Ed Sheeran has enlisted newcomer Budjerah as a guest vocalist for the remix of his single 2step.
The rising 20-year-old Australian artist confirmed the news with a social media post on Tuesday (May 10), ahead of the track's official release.
It comes with a new verse written by Budjerah especially for the revamp. It arrives midway through the mix, with his smooth vocals floating over Sheeran's rhythm. Budjerah commented:
"Getting asked to write a verse for one of his songs is just crazy. It’s a real 'what the heck' moment. I just grew up in a small town, a small Aboriginal boy singing every day and now I’m on a song with one of the biggest artists in the world. I just can’t believe it."
The original version of the song appeared on Sheeran's 2021 album '='. The accompanying video for 2step was filmed in Kyiv, Ukraine, shortly before Russia invaded the country. Sheeran will donate his royalties from YouTube streams of the clip to the DEC’s Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.
Budjerah will appear at The Great Escape Festival in Brighton this week, and supports fellow Australian Vance Joy at London's KOKO later in May. He also has North American and Australian dates in the diary. Head here for details.
Sheeran is currently in the middle of the Irish leg of The + - = ÷ x Tour (aka The Mathematics Tour), which will continue across the UK this summer before heading to mainland Europe in July, and Australia and New Zealand in 2023.
