Tom Chaplin has shared a new song.
Gravitational marks the second single from the Keane frontman's recently announced new album, 'Midpoint', his first release for BMG, due out on September 2.
Following the record's title track, the catchy, piano-based indie-pop tune was produced by Ethan Johns and finds Chaplin at his most vibrant and upbeat. He said:
"There's an ambiguity to the lyrics. The heavy chemicals now are the love for family. But it's also the desire to unravel. With my addiction and then with certain midlife questions, every time I felt myself getting very far away from home, and my wife, and kids, and music even, there's an energy that pulls me back. I love that."
'Midpoint' started life when Chaplin began writing two years ago, after Keane's 2019 tour plans were disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. It was recorded within six weeks at Peter Gabriel's Real World Studios in Bath and Paul Epworth's The Church in London.
Commenting on it, Chaplin added: "There's space for something nuanced that explores a part of life that everyone goes through. If I can get some of that across and it can resonate with something people are feeling in their lives-well, I’d be more than happy with that."
He'll be accompanied by his band on a UK tour this autumn. Tickets are on sale now.
