Paramore have announced their long-awaited sixth album.
The follow-up to 2017's 'After Laughter' is called 'This Is Why' and will arrive on February 10 via Atlantic Records. It was produced in Los Angeles by Carlos de la Garza, and will comprise 10 tracks, though the tracklist is still to be revealed.
As a preview, the trio have dropped the title track, a percussive, funk-pop song that draws influence from the likes of Talking Heads and Red Hot Chili Peppers. Featuring post-pandemic lyrics, it marks their first new music in five years and arrives with a video directed by Turnstile's Brendan Yates. Hayley Williams commented:
"This Is Why was the very last song we wrote for the album. To be honest, I was so tired of writing lyrics but Taylor convinced Zac and I both that we should work on this last idea. What came out of it was the title track for the whole album."
She added: "It summarizes the plethora of ridiculous emotions, the rollercoaster of being alive in 2022, having survived even just the last three or four years. You'd think after a global pandemic of fucking biblical proportions and the impending doom of a dying planet, that humans would have found it deep within themselves to be kinder or more empathetic or something."
The news comes as the band prepare to hit the stage this weekend (October 2) to kick off a run of intimate North American shows. They'll also make festival appearances at Austin City Limits, When We Were Young and Corona Capital Festival.
