Queen Share Previously Unheard Freddie Mercury Song Face It Alone

Thursday, 13 October 2022 Written by Jon Stickler

An unearthed Queen song featuring Freddie Mercury and John Deacon has been released.

Face It Alone will be available on 7" vinyl on November 18, and was described by drummer Roger Taylor back in June as, "a little gem from Freddie that we'd kind of forgotten about." Guitarist Brian May revealed, "it's beautiful, it's touching."

The sombre, slow-building ballad packs an emotional punch, with the focus throughout on the dramatic vocals from the late, great Mercury. It was originally recorded during the band's sessions for their 1989 13th studio album, 'The Miracle', when Mercury had been diagnosed with HIV but hadn't made it public. Sharing it online, May added:

"I’m happy that our team were able to find this track. After all these years, it’s great to hear all four of us...yes, Deacy (John Deacon) is there too...working in the studio on a great song idea which never quite got completed... until now!"

The song is one of six unreleased tracks to feature in a forthcoming eight-disc boxset of 'The Miracle', four of which feature Mercury's vocals. Head here for pre-orders.

Mercury died in November 1991, nine months after the release of Queen's final album 'Innuendo', the successor to 'The Miracle'.
