Orbital and Sleaford Mods have united for a new single, Dirty Rat.
Pulsing and seething with anger, it's the first track to be shared from the legendary electronic music duo's upcoming album, 'Optical Delusion', due out on February 17.
Taking aim at the UK's current political situation and its voters, the bass-driven techno banger was created alongside Sleaford Mods' Andrew Fearn, while Jason Williamson provides his signature intense denunciation. It comes with a video directed by Luke Losey (Smiley) and shot in Leysdown-on-Sea on The Isle Of Sheppey.
"This track is a giant capital letter," explained Orbital's Paul Hartnoll. "Like in the Book of Kells, where the very first letter always gets the big treatment from the monk when he's doing his illustrated borders. It's got that old school dance music vibe with bits of Cabaret Voltaire in there, even bits of The Shamen. It's a little bit punk rock, nice and loud. A really refreshing, 'wake up' kind of track. And Jason is just brilliant!"
"I guess it's about telling people to take responsibility for their own actions," added Phil Hartnoll. "You know, all these politicians don't come from out of nowhere. Somebody keeps voting them in. So who might that be...?"
"The ongoing culture of non-thought mostly exists because of a lack of education into critical thought," commented Williamson. "How do you mobilise a people firmly imprisoned by a concrete system?"
The record marks the Hartnoll brothers' 10th studio record to date, and their first since 2018's 'Monster's Exist'. It features guests on almost every track, including Penelope Isles, Anna B Savage, The Little Pest, Dina Ipavic, Coppe, and The Mediaeval Baebes.
Orbital will headline The Warehouse Project's Hacienda 40 event at Manchester's Mayfield Depot on November 12.
Sleaford Mods released their latest album, 'Spare Ribs', in 2021.
