The Big Moon - Here is Everything (Album Review)

Thursday, 27 October 2022 Written by Rebecca Llewellyn

The Big Moon have returned with their third studio album, ‘Here Is Everything’, serving up their most emotive work to date. An introspective work that has ties to a period of deep personal change for the band, as well as the wider world around them.

Through wonderful melodies and perfect harmonies, The Big Moon invite listeners along on their journey, as Juliette Jackson welcomes motherhood amid a pandemic. ‘Here Is Everything’ bottles emotions, from overwhelming joy to tumultuous uncertainty, and everything in between.

The album opens with 2 Lines, a track that beautifully explores a swirling torrent of change, as Jackson first learns of her pregnancy. Lyrics are sung slowly, with intent, “How does my head not split, with what’s inside of it? The world it drew with 2 little lines upon a stick.”

The album pivots into the tenderness of Wide Eyes, as feeling swells and the new world is embraced by the group. There is neat juxtaposition to the track listing as the album continues through the sweetness of Daydreaming and delicate notions of This Love, to the subtle grit behind Suckerpunch and the biting bass that oozes out of Trouble.

‘Here Is Everything’ plays out like pages of Jackson’s diary: raw, honest, unhindered, yet still undeniably cool. The Big Moon capture human emotion with a mischievous grin, through the rose-tinted lens of blissful indie music. As the band sway between poignant ballads and cheery anthems, grand choruses soar from their pop sensibilities.
