Bruce Springsteen Shares Cover Of Soul Classic Don't Play That Song

Bruce Springsteen has shared his interpretation of Don’t Play That Song.
The original track was written by Atlantic Records co-founder Ahmet Ertegun and Betty Nelson, the wife of Ben E. King, and featured on King's 1962 album, 'Don’t Play That Song!'. Aretha Franklin later scored a hit with her more memorable rendition of the song, which appeared on her 1970 LP 'Spirit In The Dark'.
The new revamp brings together a host of supporting musicians, including a string and horn arrangement, along with soulful backing singers. It serves as the third preview of the Boss' upcoming covers record, 'Only The Strong Survive', which is due out on November 11 via Columbia.
Recorded with the E Street Horns, producer Ron Aniello, and backing vocalists Soozie Tyrell, Lisa Lowell, Michelle Moore, Curtis King Jr., Dennis Collins, and Fonzi Thornton, the project was first unveiled in September, alongside a cover of Frank Wilson's Do I Love You (Indeed I Do). Earlier in October, the 73-year-old dropped a second taster in the form of a take on The Commodores' Nightshift.
Springsteen has lined up a huge tour for 2023, with North American shows announced for the winter and spring, prior to European concerts in the spring and summer. The latter run includes two massive London concerts in July as part of BST Hyde Park.
