Low's Mimi Parker Dies Aged 55

Low's Mimi Parker has died at the age of 55.

The band shared news of her passing on its official social media accounts yesterday (November 6). The drummer, vocalist, and wife of bandmate Alan Sparhawk, had been living with ovarian cancer since 2020. The message reads:

"Friends, it’s hard to put the universe into language and into a short message, but she passed away last night, surrounded by family and love, including yours. Keep her name close and sacred. Share this moment with someone who needs you. Love is indeed the most important thing."

Born in 1967 in a small town just outside the Minnesota city of Bemidji, Parker moved to Duluth for college following a childhood that saw her immersed in music. She and Sparhawk met at primary school and began dating while in high school. They formed the indie-rock band Low in 1993, with their debut album 'I Could Live In Hope' dropping a year later.

Low put out 13 studio albums during their 29-year history, with the most recent being 'Hey What' in 2021, the first that Parker and Sparhawk recorded as a duo. They remained the two consistent members of the band's line-up, with various different bassists joining the mix throughout the years.

As well as her husband, Parker is survived by their two children, Hollis and Cyrus.
