Ward Thomas have announced a new album and accompanying tour.
'Music In The Madness', the follow-up to 2020's 'Invitation', is due for release on March 10, with a spring UK tour set to begin later that month.
They've lined up shows in Glasgow, Gateshead, Liverpool, York, Manchester, Birmingham, Cambridge, Cardiff, Bexhill-on-Sea, London, Southampton, Reading and Bath between March 30 and April 18. Tickets go on sale at 10am on November 18. Head here for pre-sale tickets for their Liverpool gig.
Meanwhile, head below to check out the record's first cut, Justice & Mercy, alongside the tracklist and artwork. The country song shows off the twin sisters' storytelling skills. One half of the duo, Lizzy Ward Thomas said:
“It’s a fun story song about a wrong ’un who ruins lives on his travels and meets a sticky end. I imagine it set in the ‘20s Western States, although we partly based the psychopath on Putin. There are two outcomes when you listen to true crime - one merciful, one justice-driven. Either the perpetrator has to die or his soul can be saved. There were some deep discussions in that writing session. If one of us was murdered, would the other be team justice or team mercy?”
Discussing the record, Catherine Ward Thomas added:
“In Ukraine in particular we witnessed these wonderful, moving moments of music in the madness. Soldiers singing the national anthem and getting married on the front line. The viral video of the girl in a bomb shelter singing Let It Go. In times of crisis, music matters even more. That’s what we set out to celebrate.”
