The National have shared two new songs, Alphabet City and Space Invader.
The former is a slow-burner with rich instrumentation and a string arrangement, while the latter is an epic seven-minute melancholic tune that builds to an orchestral outro.
Guided by frontman Matt Berninger's brooding baritone vocals, the two introspective tracks come with visual accompaniments featuring animation and drawings by French folk and new wave singer-songwriter Pauline de Lassus.
The new music follows the Brooklyn band's ninth studio album, 'First Two Pages Of Frankenstein', which was released in April. They're currently supporting it on the road in North America, and play New York City's Madison Square Garden tomorrow (August 18). They'll also play shows in the UK and Europe this autumn.
