King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard have shared the first three songs off their upcoming album, 'The Silver Cord'.
Theia, the record's title track and Set find the prolific Australian band utilising synthesisers, vocal effects and electronic dance beats for the first taste of what's to come on their second LP of 2023, due out on October 27. The cuts feature in one 12-minute video, viewable below.
Comprising seven songs, the project will be released in two different versions; a short standard edition and a lengthier form featuring extended versions of each song. Frontman Stu Mackenzie explained:
"The first version's really condensed, trimming all the fat. And on the second version, that first song, Theia, is 20 minutes long. It’s the ‘everything’ version – those seven songs you’ve already heard on the first version, but with a whole lot of other shit we record while making it. It’s for the Gizz-heads."
'The Silver Cord' marks the band's 25th album in 11 years and follows the ridiculously titled 'PetroDragonic Apocalypse; or, Dawn of Eternal Night: An Annihilation of Planet Earth and the Beginning of Merciless Damnation', which came out in June.
Earlier today, the group were confirmed as headliners for the 2024 edition of Wide Awake Festival in London. They also have a number of three-hour "marathon" shows lined up at different venues in the US for August and November.
