Yungblud and Bring Me The Horizon's Oli Sykes have teamed up for a new track.
The energetic, glitchy alt-pop Happier dropped onto social media channels and streaming platforms following its premiere on BBC Radio 1 late yesterday (October 17).
Fusing drum and bass beats with electronic melodies and heavy basslines, it marks the second time the Doncaster artist has collaborated with the Sheffield metalcore titans, having previously combined on the 2020 single Obey, which featured on the latter's 'Post Human: Survival Horror' EP.
It arrives ahead of Yungblud's dates supporting Bring Me The Horizon in Asia later in October, as well as his own headline tour in the region.
Yungblud dropped the singles Hated and Lowlife this summer, while his latest album is his 2022 self-titled LP. Commenting on the new song, he said:
"I have almost been conditioned by myself my whole life to be in pain. When I’m in pain I work better. I function better because I have something to combat. It’s dark but it’s all I’ve ever known. The feeling of happiness is scary because you feel like it’s all about to go wrong. I have always felt that if I’m happy I’ll get complacent so it’s lost me a lot of opportunity for friendships and relationships in the past.
"I got really emotional when writing this. I was craving another Yungblud song that would burn in my stomach, make me feel like it’s all gonna be okay, encourage me to fight back against old habits and try my best to realign myself to be better. It’s okay to find happiness, it’s okay to feel it. I hope you find a little bit of it in this song. You deserve it. Everyone does."
Earlier in October, Bring Me The Horizon shared the single DArkSide, from their forthcoming album 'POST HUMAN: NeX Gen'. The record was due to arrive back in September, but was put on hold because they were unable to record the album to a standard the group were happy with. A new release date is still to be confirmed.
In early 2024, they'll take their NX_GN WRLD TOUR to arenas across the UK and Ireland. Tickets are on sale. The band have also confirmed a round of tour dates in Australia for April, tickets for which go on general sale at 9am local time on October 23.
They'll also appear at the second edition of the one-day rock and metal festival Sick New World in Las Vegas on April 27.
