Details have been shared of a new Daniel Johnston catalogue project.
Titled 'Daniel Johnston In The 20th Century', the project will start by restoring the late indie-rock legend's 20th century discography, beginning with his 1981 home-made cassette debut 'Songs Of Pain'.
The first phase comprises Johnston's 14 releases between 1980 and 1998, with each recording remastered from the original source tapes by longtime Johnston collaborator Kramer (pictured with Johnston).
After years of being off any sort of streaming services, they're all currently available via Bandcamp as pay-what-you-want downloads until the end of today (December 20), and 100% of profits will go to the Daniel Johnston Estate, "for the sole purpose of preserving Daniel’s musical and artistic legacy."
Next year, his estate will release more material, with the ongoing project set to restore the singer's 21st century output up until his death in 2019.
The hugely influential artist was championed by Nirvana's Kurt Cobain and his songs have been recorded by a wide range of artists, including Wilco, Flaming Lips, Tom Waits and Beck.
