The first acts have been announced for the annual Teenage Cancer Trust concert series at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
Led by Teenage Cancer Trust honorary patron and curator Roger Daltrey and guitarist Pete Townshend (pictured), The Who will headline the iconic venue on March 18 and March 20 accompanied by an orchestra. They'll be joined by special guests Squeeze, who will be celebrating their 50th anniversary this year.
Ovation, a night celebrating 24 years of Teenage Cancer Trust concerts will take place on March 24 with a star-studded line-up, including Robert Plant with Saving Grace, Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder, Paul Weller and Kelly Jones.
In addition to the musical line-up, an Evening Of Comedy is scheduled for March 19, with the line-up to be revealed in due course. Tickets for all dates go on general sale at 9am on Friday (January 12).
The 2024 concerts will be a swansong for Daltrey, who has fundraised and advocated for the charity for nearly 25 years. From 2025, Teenage Cancer Trust will team up with a series of guest curators to take the shows forward. Commenting on his 22 years as the boss, Daltrey said:
"The £32 million raised from these concerts has been the foundation for the 28 specialised units within the NHS, as well as specialist nurses and youth workers to be there for a young person when cancer has turned their world upside down."
Gallagher added: "The Teenage Cancer Trust continue to make a real difference to teenagers in what undoubtedly must be the most challenging years of their lives. Having performed at the very first event back in 2000 it is a charity very close to my heart. 24 years and counting is a triumph in itself. NGHFB will be there en masse. Together we will make the night unique. I’d buy a ticket if I were you."
The Royal Albert Hall has hosted fundraising concerts for the charity since 2000. Previous guests include Paul McCartney, Oasis, The Cure, Jessie J and Jason Manford.
UPDATE 23/02: Pete Townshend was previously announced to play the Ovation night on March 24, but has since confirmed he will not be appearing. Read his full statement below.
