Paul Heaton has shared a video for Fish 'N' Chip Supper.
The track arrived last month as the first preview of the former Beautiful South and Housemartins vocalist's new album, 'The Mighty Several', which is due out on October 11.
The Andy Hylton-directed clip, meanwhile, arrives fresh from Heaton's performance on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury last month. It stars Heaton alongside Bolton actor and comedy star Diane Morgan, and Salford comedy actor Pearce Quigley. There's also cameos from the singer-songwriter's daughter Maisie, who handles choreography, and his wife Linda. It was shot at various locations around Manchester, including The Railway pub in Didsbury and The Baths Supper Bar chippie in Chorlton. Heaton commented:
"What it’s trying to do – and I don’t know if I’ve done it! – is compare the journey we have in life and love, to the stagger back home from a pub, via chip-shop and flower shop. We may stop at one too many pubs that we didn't need to, but finally we get ourselves together and end up all walking back, bringing fish ‘n’ chip suppers to our lovers. I wanted that to be a joyous thing. I explained it to a couple I know well, and they said it really summed them up. He’s always going out and coming back late but she loves him in the end. It was fun writing it, and it’s a very English sounding song I suppose."
Heaton will support his new record with a previously scheduled winter UK tour, which will feature support from special guests The Zutons. Tickets are on sale now.
