Kim Deal has shared a new solo single, Coast.
Recorded with the late Steve Albini at his Chicago studio Electrical Audio, the alt-rock track marks The Breeders singer and guitarist's first new solo song in a decade.
Penned in 2020, it was written after Deal attended the wedding of her friend Mike Montgomery, where she watched the house band deliver a lacklustre performance of Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville. It also takes inspiration from time Deal spent on the island of Nantucket, Massachusetts in 2000.
It finds the Ohio-based musician accompanied by her twin sister and Breeders bandmate Kelley on guitar, Breeders alum Mando Lopez and drummer Lindsay Glover, with Chicago marching band Mucca Pazza contributing horns.
There's currently no information to say if Coast is the first single from a solo album, which would be her first, or a standalone release. Her last solo singles were 2014's Biker Gone and Beautiful Moon.
The Breeders have further dates supporting Olivia Rodrigo in Los Angeles in August, having opened her shows in New York back in April. Their last studio album was 2018's 'All Nerve'.
