MUNA Vocalist Katie Gavin Announces Debut Solo Album 'What A Relief' With Lead Single Aftertaste

MUNA's Katie Gavin has announced her debut solo album.
Having teased the news over recent days on social media, the vocalist has confirmed that she'll release 'What A Relief' through Phoebe Bridgers’ Saddest Factory Records on October 25. Introducing the LP, which boasts a Mitski feature on the track As Good As It Gets, Gavin commented:
"This record spans a lot of my life – it’s about having a really deep desire for connection, but also encountering all the obstacles that stood in my way to be able to achieve that, patterns of isolation or even boredom with the real work of love."
To coincide with the news, the singer-songwriter has shared the record's lead single, Aftertaste, a heartfelt pop song that comes with a video she co-directed with Alexa Viscius. Gavin added: "I thought this song would be a good place to start because to me it kind of serves as a bridge, sonically and thematically, between MUNA’s world and the world we are going to with the solo record.
"It’s a sweet song about carrying a torch for someone, realizing that you are going out to concerts and parties hoping to run into them there. The song is a playing out of a fantasy, really, both because it involves confessing your crush and finding out that it is reciprocated."
Gavin has also scheduled a run of intimate US shows for the fall, as well as a standalone gig at London's The Old Church in Hackney on September 11. Tickets for the latter go on general sale at 10am BST on August 2.
MUNA released their self-titled third album in 2022. The Los Angeles pop trio shared a standalone single titled One That Got Away in 2023.
