Queen have announced a remastered and expanded edition of their 1973 self-titled debut album.
Restored by Justin Shirley-Smith, Joshua J Macrae and Kris Fredriksson, 'Queen I' will be released on October 25 as a 6CD and 1LP collector’s edition, as well as on vinyl, CD, a two-CD deluxe edition, one-LP picture disc and cassette formats.
The box set edition will feature 63 tracks with 43 new mixes, comprising the original record's tracklist with its intended running order restored. It also contains an intimate fly-on-the-wall audio recording of Queen in the studio, plus demos, rare live tracks, and previously unheard recordings from the legendary British band's debut live show in London in August 1970.
There's also a 108-page book including handwritten lyrics and memorabilia. Queen guitarist Brian May said:
"This is not just a remaster, this is a brand new 2024 rebuild of the entire Queen debut album, which, with the benefit of hindsight, we have re-titled 'QUEEN I'.
"All the performances are exactly as they originally appeared in 1973, but every instrument has been revisited to produce the ‘live’ ambient sounds we would have liked to use originally. The result is "Queen" as it would have sounded with today’s knowledge and technology – a first. It is the debut album we always dreamed of bringing to you."
All fans pre-ordering the digital version of the album will receive the single The Night Comes Down, with a physical 7" single release for the song following on October 4.
