Big Special and John Grant have teamed up for a new single.
Arriving via SO Recordings, Stay Down, Lazarus finds the Black Country duo and New York singer-songwriter combining for a dramatic, towering fusion of bass and heavy atmospherics that are interspersed with vocals drenched in reverb. Big Special's lead singer Joe Hicklin commented:
"Stay Down, Lazarus is just a big moan about the social promise of elevation and rising up, that doesn’t really exist for most people. It was actually the first song written for Big Special, but it didn’t make our debut album. We always felt it needed something more, so we took a shot in the dark and asked John Grant, a major influence of ours, to have a crack at it with us. We are proper chuffed he wanted to get involved and still pinching ourselves."
Grant added: "Was very psyched that Big Special asked me along for the ride on this track. Had a blast doing this!"
Big Special released their debut album, 'Postindustrial Hometown Blues', back in May, while Grant put out 'The Art Of The Lie' in June.
Big Special will support John Grant on his autumn UK and European tour, which kicks off later this month. They'll also play a rescheduled show at London's O2 Forum Kentish Town on March 29. Original tickets already purchased will remain valid for the new date.
