Benjamin Booker has announced his first new album in seven years.

'Lower' will arrive on January 24, marking the New Orleans-based artist's debut release on his own label, Fire Next Time Records via Thirty Tigers.

Co-produced by Booker and Kenny Segal, it's previewed with the lead single, LWA In The Trailer Park, which marks a notable switch in style, debuting a more raw, experimental sound instead of the Americana-inspired garage rock that featured on his first two LPs. He said:

"I wanted to get to this sound, but I didn’t know how. At some point I decided I’m going to find it or die trying. Kenny was the missing piece I needed--he fills in all of my gaps. I don’t know what I’ll do next, but if I can imagine it, I can do it now."

Commenting on the song's accompanying video, which Booker made with Gerry Cisneros, he added: "I felt particularly connected to Paul Schrader’s work making this album. Like several of his movies, I wanted to look at a troubled character on the edge, reaching for transcendence. Now that I’m working on a series of connected videos, Schrader has had an influence in that arena as well, along with Jean-Pierre Melville’s Le Samourai and Charles Burnett’s Killer of Sheep."

Booker will support the follow-up to 2017's 'Witness' with his first headlining tour in seven years in 2025, with support from Segal. Head here for details.
