Patrick Wolf has returned with details of his first album in 13 years.
The London singer and multi-instrumentalist will release 'Crying The Neck' through Apport/Virgin Music on April 25, following up 2023’s 'The Night Safari' EP, which marked his first new music in a decade.
Written and recorded at his home studio in Ramsgate, Wolf plays multiple instruments on 'Crying The Neck', including viola, Appalachian dulcimer, baritone ukulele, kantale and Atari. It also features guest appearances from Zola Jesus, Serafina Steer, drummer Seb Rochford and Wolf’s sister Jo Apps.
As a preview, Wolf has shared Dies Irae, the record's dramatic lead single that he wrote while mourning his mother, who passed away from cancer in 2018. It features multiple layers of instrumentation, including a string arrangement, and its title originates from Latin Requiem Mass and translates to "the day of wrath."
Wolf describes the song as, "an affirmation of life in the last days of knowing you are about to lose someone you love, and a courageous – almost rebellious – choice against the misery to use the time remaining to deepen your love or joy with each other."
He'll support the LP with a tour of the UK and Europe in May and June. Tickets go on general sale at 10am GMT/11am CET on Friday (February 7).
