Morcheeba will return with their 11th studio album this spring.
The London trip hop titans will release 'Escape The Chaos' through 100% Records on May 23, following up 2021's 'Blackest Blue'.
Alongside the announcement, the duo have shared a reflective new single, We Live And Die, which offers velvety, soulful vocals from singer Skye Edwards over Ross Godfrey's upbeat production with swirling synths, guitars, and a punchy groove.
The pair will release the track as their first 7" on Record Store Day (April 12) as part of the celebrations behind their 30-year anniversary. Edwards commented:
"For me, We Live And Die is about my duration in the band and the music world and life in general. The lines become blurred after all this time. In a way, it’s a homage to the thirty years of being in Morcheeba which is 60% of my existence."
During the album's recording sessions in Dublin, Edwards was joined by her son Jaega on drums and husband Steve Gordon on bass, with Godfrey's wife, French singer Amanda Zamolo, contributing lyrics and vocals to cut Pareidolia. Zamolo previously worked with Godfrey and Edwards on 2008's 'Dive Deep' and 2018's 'Blaze Away'.
"It felt more like the old days of recording when we laid down those tracks," Godfrey said. "We were actually in a room playing the songs together."
The record also features a collaboration with Tottenham rapper Oscar #Worldpeace on the track Peace Of Mind.
Godfrey and Edwards first teased the album last month with the single Call For Love, which closes the record. Godfrey added: "This whole record is a process of trying to reconnect with what really matters. whether it’s what in your heart or with the world, putting your feet on grass and feeling the earth beneath you."
Morcheeba are set to schedule a run of tour dates soon. We'll keep you posted.
