Car Seat Headrest Announce First Studio Album In Five Years 'The Scholars'

Car Seat Headrest have shared details of their first studio album in five years.
Will Toledo's indie-rock project will release the self-described rock opera 'The Scholars' through Matador Records on May 2, following up 2020's 'Making a Door Less Open', and their 2023 live album 'Faces From The Masquerade'.
The record's concept centres around the fictional college campus Parnassus University, while each song focuses on a different student or staff member, offering stories of life, death, and rebirth.
Alongside the announcement comes the sprawling, dynamic 11-minute single Gethsemane, and its accompanying black and white short film directed by Andrew Wonder. The song follows the character Rosa, a medical school student. Toledo explained:
"Rosa studies at the medical school of Parnassus University. After an experience bringing a medically deceased patient back to life, she begins to regain powers suppressed since childhood, of healing others by absorbing their pain. Each night, instead of dreams, she encounters the raw pain and stories of the souls she touches throughout the day. Reality blurs, and she finds herself taken deep into secret facilities buried beneath the medical school, where ancient beings that covertly reign over the college bring forth their dark plans."
The band will support the LP with headline US dates and festival appearances beginning in May at Salt Lake City's Kilby Block Party, with new shows confirmed in Washington, Denver, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Boston and Oakland between June and November. Tickets go on general sale at 10am local time on Friday (March 7).
