Good news for Gorrilaz fans, in a new interview with The Guardian newspaper, songwriter Damon Albarn has revealed that the third Gorillaz album, set to be called ‘Plastic Beach, is almost finished.
Leading the way in cutting edge music and design, Gorillaz are one of the UKs more unusual groups. They have quickly become the first, and most successful, multimedia act blending the artwork and animation of Jamie Hewitt with the song writing of Damon Albarn resulting in the creation of a hugely successful 2001 debut album.
After the follow up with ‘Demon Days’ Gorillaz established themselves as one of the country’s most successful groups. Touring with a mass of hi-tech animations, the band stood on the summit of new music and design.
The cartoon hip-hop and indie group have not released any material since ‘Demon Days’ and after a long wait for fans, songwriter Damon Albarn has announced in a new interview with The Guardian that their new album is almost finished. “This whole Gorillaz album, “Plastic Beach”, which is nearly finished now, started off as “Carousel”. (Its) sort of about the mythical aspects of Britain” he told the newspaper. He continued, “Obviously, because it’s Gorillaz we’ve moved it to a different place, but it still maintains a lot of that melancholy.”
Other exciting news that Albarn also revealed is that US rappers Mos Def and Snoop Dogg will feature on the new album which he describes as being “the most pop record I’ve ever made”. In addition to the hip hop stars the record will feature vocals from soul legend Bobby Womack and Bee Gee Barry Gibb, with music from The Horrors and The Syrian National Orchestra. It certainly sounds like an eclectic mix.
‘Plastic Beach’ is expected in March 2010 although no official release date has been confirmed. The album will be the first full studio album since 2005’s ‘Demon Days’.
