Gruff Rhys to Release Album With Brazilian TV Repair Man

Super Furry Animals frontman Gruff Rhys is expected to release a very unique album recorded with a Brazilian TV and video repair man called Tony Da Gatorra.

I kid you not, it does get more weird and this isnt an early April Fools! Gatorra is a colourful character who has invented his own unique musical instrument called ‘The Gatorra.’ The instrument is part drum-machine and part guitar and provides the backbone for his singular protest songs.

Gruff Rhys met Da Gatorra while making his recent movie ‘Seperado!’ which is a film about a South American road trip. Having performed a gig together, the pair booked themselves into a Sao Paulo recording studio where they cut the experimental album in just five hours.

On returning to Cardiff, Rhys claims he mixed ‘The Terror of Cosmic Loneliness’ in an epic 12-hour session “armed with five flasks of strong coffee, 75 sticks of gum and a bank of vintage compressors." The results are understood to be “unorthodox”.

Meanwhile, Brazilian Da Gattora says the record “was made with lots of feelings and true love to bring consciousness and show a little bit of truth that needs to be said without hypocrisy." He added, "We are creatures of God, so there's no death. Spirit is light, all evil won't prevail."

‘The Terror Of Cosmic Loneliness’ is set for release on July 26th. To coincide with the release, a handful of shows have been scheduled with the pair playing Cardiff Clwb Ifor Bach (July 29), Camp Bestival in Dorset (July 30) and Field Day in London (July 31).
