Former Sex Pistols Manager Malcolm McLaren Dies

The former Sex Pistols manager, the man responsible for changing the face of British music forever, Malcolm McLaren has died at the age of 64.

Born in 1946 in London, McLaren had been suffering from cancer for some time. Even though the 64 year-old had recently experienced a period of good health, his conditioned deteriorated rapidly over a few days and he died yesterday morning, April 8th, in Switzerland. His body is expected to be flown to London and buried in Highgate cemetery.

Famed for managing the Sex Pistols between 1975 and 1977, Malcolm McLaren, prior to forming the Pistols, ran a clothing shop in London. ‘Let It Rock’ was run by McLaren and his partner at the time, designer Vivienne Westwood. The shop was later re-named ‘Too Fast To Live Too Young To Die’ and then changed name again, most famously to ‘SEX’, a shop specialising in punk fashion for the new genration. It was at ‘SEX’ that John Lydon mimed to an Alice Cooper record on the jukebox which turned out to be his successful audition for the role of the Sex Pistols' frontman.

With messages of condolence streaming in for McLaren, those topping the list of tributes was John Lydon, otherwise known as Johnny Rotten. "For me Malc was always entertaining and I hope you remember that," he said. "Above all else he was an entertainer and I will miss him and so should you.”

Following his days as a manager, Malcolm McLaren ventured into his own musical projects, with the first of his albums ‘Duck Rock’ being release in 1983. He also had huge success with UK hits such as ‘Buffalo Gals’, ‘Double Dutch’ and ‘Madame Butterfly’.
