Supertramp Release Details Of London O2 Arena Gig & Tickets

The legendary chart-topping soft rockers Supertramp have announced details of a special performance this autumn at London’s O2 Arena.

Supertramp formed in 1969 and found their fame in crafting a series of top-selling albums during the 1970’s and early 1980s. Their early music featured some ambitious concept albums from where hits such as "The Logical Song" and "Breakfast in America" were spawned.

Although forming in the UK, Supertramp achieved their superstardom overseas in the United States, Canada and Europe. Although still very popular, they didn’t quite get the same attention on UK soil.

However, their 1979 album ‘Breakfast in America’ became a huge hit in the UK and reached as far as number three on the UK Album Chart. The album also generated two top ten singles.

Like all good things though, the success came to an end in 1983 when co-founding member, vocalist and guitarist Roger Hodgson quit the band. Departing with some speculation as to why the split was happening, Hodgson claimed he left to spend time with his two small children. However, there were rife rumours that Hodgson and Rick Davies, co-founder, vocals and keyboardist in Supertramp, were having personal problems with each other.

Lately, Hodgson has admitted that he cannot see a Supertramp reunion ever happening, but he did say, “never say never.” Speaking to Undercover website he said: "We've looked at it and talked it over, many times...I would never say never but Rick [Davies] has pretty much retired right now and I'm in the prime of my life. The reaction I am getting from fans is 'please don't reunite.' I think a lot of the magic and spirit that people think they would see at a Supertramp reunion, they are actually getting at my shows now. I feel the reunion I am having is with my audience and it feels really good."

With both Roger Hodgson and Rick Davies set to tour worldwide this year, it is not yet known whether the two will be playing together on Supertramp’s stage this year.

Supertramp will play the following UK date:

October 2010

6th The O2 Arena, London

Tickets are available from 9am on Thursday 22nd April
