Aerosmith Back From The Brink Of Collapse

US hard-rocking superstars Aerosmith are back! Returning from the brink of collapse, guitarist Joe Perry talks insists that the band are back on form and ready to rock a whole new generation of fans.

Forming forty years ago, Aerosmith have gone on to become one of the biggest bands in the world. Returning in the late 1990’s from a haze of drug and drink addiction, with the band rejuvenated and flying high on their second wind, they introduced a whole new generation to some of the greatest rock music ever made.

Last year was one of the shakiest years for Aerosmith, with the band on the verge of collapse it was not certain if “the Bad Boys of Boston” were going to survive. Charismatic singer Steven Tyler’s behavior was becoming more outrageous with the star even falling off a stage at one stateside show.

Now however, things seem to be brightening up for Aerosmith. After some long-standing friction between band members, the group got together and talked it out once and for all. With Tyler’s behavior increasing in unpredictability, guitarist Joe Perry was reported as saying: ”We can't count on Tyler any more, he's a fucking burnout."
However since then Perry has denied such a comment saying: "That was put together from Twitter. You have to be so careful of Twitter."

Things got so bad that Aerosmith were considering switching to a new singer altogether and started the search for a suitable replacement for Tyler. "We were looking," Perry says, "but, you're right, I knew the band weren't splitting up. I knew it wasn't going to be Aerosmith – but I wanted to work with someone new. It was just something for us to do, you know. I knew that the band wasn't going to break up. I've known the guy too long, we've been through way too much shit together for it to all end. He's my fucking blood brother. I knew he'd come back. I just didn't want to wait."

Lately Aerosmith have been considering writing some new material but Joe Perry believes that fans don’t want to hear another Aerosmith album. "Until a couple of years ago, fans would ask for more records like the old records, but that's all fallen off" he explained.
"New material is not that important any more. We've been at this for a long time. I think of some of the songs I've written or co-written and I think, why should I bother trying to top that? It's like Leonardo Da Vinci painting the Madonna again. Why should I paint the Madonna again?"

Aerosmith are in the UK this weekend for a Sunday headline show at this year’s Download Festival. The band play both Download as well as a show at London’s O2 Arena a few days later as part of their ‘Cocked, Locked, Ready To Rock’ world tour.
