Everton are an English football club based in Liverpool. They were founded as St. Domingo's FC in 1878 so that members of the congregation of the local St. Domingo Methodist New Connexion Chapel could play sport all year round.

The club's home has been Goodison Park since 1892, with the origin of their "The Toffees" nickname dating back to two local Toffee Shops that figured in Everton's early history. After "The Toffees", Everton are perhaps most commonly referred to as being "The Blues", which derives from the club's colours.

Everton's main rivals are Liverpool FC, whose home stadium Anfield is just under one mile away from Everton's home at Goodison Park; the two clubs contest the Merseyside derby.

Everton is one of six teams to have played in every season of the Premier League since its inception in August 1992, the others being Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur. They have won nine league titles, five FA Cups, one European Cup Winners' Cup and nine Charity Shields.
