The Heebie Jeebies - Misery Guts/Murderous (Single Review)

Jungle Pop three piece, The Heebie Jeebies, are due to release Misery Guts and Murderous on the 6th of September. The jangly, ska and reggae infused pop music created by Owen J. Adams, Thomas S. Barnett and Del H. Hoyle has a definite feel good factor to it and a very danceable catchiness.

Misery Guts is an intensely catchy track, the frantic drum beat is wonderful and Caribbean in sound, the bass line that flows over the top is fantastically warm and deep, these elements combine to create a lovely back drop as the jangly, climbing riffs and vocals then flow over the up and down track.

Rhythmic and infectious, it is impossible not to dance to this track. Vocally The Heebie Jeebies may not be excellent, but make no mistake the vocals work very well to this summery, upbeat medley of jangly, punchy musical excellence.

Murderous just amplifies everything good about Misery Guts. The bass line throughout the track is absolutely fantastic as is the jangly guitar melody. Coupled with the brilliant drumming on show and the rising and falling tempo of this track, what you have is a very well polished track which allows the brilliant lyrics to come to life, creating a track which should have been released at the start of summer and not the end.

Excellent and danceable from start to finish, Murderous is a fantastic example of how simple musical elements, put together well can create a very polished and excellent sound.

These two tracks are both excellent. Rhythm, melody and hook filled, there is very little not to like from these tracks and an abundance of things to love.

The Heebie Jeebies are completing a small UK tour, with dates in September and October available on the bands MySpace page. http://myspace.com/theheebiefuckingjeebies
