Take That’s Gary Barlow joined Coldplay on stage this Sunday (December 19th) for a special charity show. Barlow joined Coldplay at Liverpool’s Royal Court Theatre to perform in aid of Crisis, a charity for the homeless.
Coldplay played a hit-laden set which included ‘Politik’, ‘Yellow’, and ‘Fix You’. The band also performed the first rendition of their recent Christmas single, ‘Christmas Lights’. The band were backed by The Choir With No Name, a group made up of homeless of disadvantaged individuals.
Before introducing Barlow onto the stage, Chris Martin joked with the crowd, announcing “We’re S***”, before continuing: “Only joking, I don’t really think that. I think we’re average-to-middling...and we’ve benefited greatly from Gary Barlow being on holiday for the last 10 years!”
The statement was treated with laughs before fans realised it was a subtle introduction for the long-term Take That member, who came on to perform a rendition of the band’s 1995 hit, ‘Back For Good’. Comedian Peter Kay (who had been acting as compere for the evening) also lended his unique vocal abilities to the song.
It is reported that Coldplay fans have already raised more than £238,000 for Crisis, and the total is expected to increase greatly once additional proceeds are counted from their second charity performance in Newcastle last night (December 20th).
