Damon Albarn To Release New Solo Album In May

Damon Albarn is set to release a brand new solo album this May, as part of yet another new project from the Blur and Gorillaz star.

‘Dr Dee’ is a brand new, 18-track record out on May 7th, and features music inspired by the life of John Dee - mathematician, polymath and advisor to Elizabeth I. Described by Albarn as ‘strange pastoral folk’, Dr Dee is a fitting companion to the end of another Elizabethan age. The album combines Albarn's voice with early English choral and instrumentation alongside modern, West African and Renaissance sounds.

Dr Dee was recorded late last year in Albarn’s West London studio and also in Salford with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. The album was mixed by Valgeir Sigursson in Reykjavik and will be available on CD, vinyl and as a digital download. You can watch a trailer for the album below.

Albarn recently reunited with his Blur bandmates and will be performing at the Olympic Games closing ceremony, alongside The Specials and New Order. Click here to Compare & Buy Blur Tickets at Stereoboard.
