Australian rockers Jet have announced that they’ve decided to split up last night, following 11 years together and three studio albums together.
The band, probably most famous for their track ‘Are You Gonna Be My Girl’, made the announcement via their website and their Facebook page, telling fans that they had made the decision to ‘discontinue as a group’ – meaning that there could possibly be new projects or material coming from individual members of the band.
The five-piece wrote: “After many successful years of writing, recording and touring we wish to announce our discontinuation as a group. From the many pubs, theatres, stadiums and festivals all across the world it was the fans that made our amazing story possible and we wish to thank them all. Thank you, and good night.”
They also promised fans that they would keep “their music, legacy and brand alive through new licensing, publishing, merchandise, re-records and releases.”
The band, which consists of Nic Cester, Chris Cester, Cameron Muncey and Mark Wilson, formed back in 2001 and released their debut album ‘Get Born’ two years later. ‘Get Born’ hit #1 in their native Australia, making it their highest album chart position ever. Since then, they released ‘Shine On’ and ‘Shaka Rock’, before calling an end to their reign last night (March 26th).
