Iconic electronic outfit Depeche Mode have claimed that they turned down an award at this year’s BRIT Awards - with vocalist David Gahan saying ‘fuck the BRITs’!
The band have revealed that they were approached by BRITs officials in regards to the band being given the ‘Most Influential Band’ award - but apparently refused because ITV decided they wouldn’t air the win on the television coverage of the ceremony.
Speaking to The Sun, Gahan revealed: “Fuck the Brits. Let me tell you a story. I will probably get someone in trouble, but we were told we were getting a new award this year. 'Most Influential Band In The Last 20 Years' or something? Basically the old bastard, 'Lifetime Achievement Award' - and we said, 'Yes that's cool'. Then we heard through the grapevine ITV wouldn't broadcast our segment. So we said, 'If they won't play us on air, then we're not going to be their most influential band'.”
He continued: “How many other bands have had as many hits as us worldwide and been around for as long? Fuck them then and bollocks to it.”
Although he seems to be rather pissed off, Gahan does have a point too - what do you think of the comments? Let us know in the comment section below.
