The Stone Roses Rip Through Fan Favourites At Coachella Festival

Monday, 15 April 2013 Written by Elliott Batte

Manchester alt-rock icons The Stone Roses kicked off Coachella Festival in style over the weekend, which also saw Britpop legends Blur chipping in with an epic performance.

Ian Brown and co. headlined the first night of the massive Californian festival, and ripped through a number of crowd favourites during their set - which was warmed up by Blur. Despite the crowd not being as filled out as it may have been the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ performance last night, but they still drew favourable reviews, and introduced themselves to thousands of Americans who hadn’t had the fortune of hearing The Stone Roses before.

The band weren’t phased by the (partially) blissfully-unaware crowd, and ripped through performances of ‘This is the One’ and ‘I Am the Resurrection’, after opening with their anthemic number ‘I Wanna Be Adored’. Also included in the gig was ‘Sally Cinnamon’, ‘Ten Storey Love Song’, ‘Waterfall,’ ‘Don’t Stop’, ‘Fools Gold’, ‘Made of Stone’, ‘Love Spreads’, and ‘She Bangs the Drums’.

Damon Albarn and his Blur bandmates also opted for a fan-favourite-filled set, as they helped represent the best in British music in the US this weekend. They played ‘Parklife’, ‘Coffee & TV’ (with vocals from Graham Coxon), ‘Beetlebum’, ‘Tender’, and of course ‘Song 2’ amongst others as they got the crowd ready for The Stone Roses’ performance later in the evening.
