Organisers of South Wales music festival, Merthyr Rock, have been forced to cancel 2013's event due to "overwhelming economic pressures".
Staged at Cyfartha Park, Merthyr Rock made its debut in 2011 boasting a line-up that included some of Wales' best home-grown rock and metal talent, including The Blackout, Revoker, Skindred and Funeral For A Friend. Following another successful festival in 2012, Merthyr Rock had established itself as a highlight in the summer rock/metal festival calendar.
The news of the cancellation was revealed via a short statement on the festival's official Facebook page:
'We're sad to announce that due to overwhelming economic pressures there won't be a Merthyr Rock in 2013. Thank you for your support that made the festival such a great success in 2011 and 2012.'
At the moment there is no news of Merthyr Rock continuing. Hopefully we will see the festival return in 2014. Meanwhile, across the valley, Ebbw Vale's Steelhouse Festival is all set to go ahead this summer. Michael Shenker and Saxon are to headline the weekend that takes place in July.
